Nguyen Tan Cuong

born in 1953, in Hanoi, north Vietnam

Nguyen Tan Cuong has graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Saigon in 1973. He has participated in several shows outside of Vietnam including in Paris (1991), Singapore (1993), and Japan (1994, 1996). He was featured in the exhibitions Mekong 1995 and Mekong 1996 in Switzerland. In 1996 and 2000, he received the Phillip Morris prize that designated the best artists from the ASEAN countries.
Nguyen creates a universe made of translucent representations and multifaceted characters. Everyone can find a small piece of himself within this fascinating, imaginative world. Akin to his personality, the artist’s works retain an air of discretion and anxiety. The enigmatic nature of his characters are reflected in complex, broken faces, very much like his contemporary, the artist Do Hoang Tuong.
